My Approach

Working with me is a partnership. I believe that while we are here to do "the work," the environment should be laid back, engaging, and even fun. My practice is rooted in evidence-based interventions that tend to be person-centered, values based, and rooted in cognitive-behavioral therapy.

I don't just hand out worksheets or follow pre-planned protocols. We make space to process your lived experiences to create a deeper understanding of the "Why" behind your performance. You can expect to leave our sessions with tactical "homework" to implement in real-time, balanced with a digging deeper into what makes you tick.

My Experience

I work with individuals across the entire lifespan of performance—from adolescents finding their passions to professional athletes competing at the highest levels. Dr. Katie recognized her interest for supporting others early on, and went on to earn her doctorate degree in counseling psychology. She completed her post-doctoral fellowship at HCMC working extensively with individuals recovering from injury and medical circumstances. She finds sport and performance psychology to be a great blend of helping people overcome roadblocks while also watching them thrive on and off the playing surface. My clinical focus includes:

  • Spectrum of Performance work: Moving from afraid to make mistakes or disappointment others to playing free, confident and at your best.

  • Injury Recovery: Navigating the mental roadblocks and emotional stress of rehab to return stronger than before.

  • Mental Health Management: Addressing the person behind the athlete to manage general mental health concerns.

  • Values-Based Living: Helping people achieve goals on the playing surface while living a life that feels meaningful off of it.

My understanding of performance isn’t just academic—it’s lived. I grew up as a multi-sport athlete (hockey, soccer, and lacrosse) before playing Division 1 Hockey at the University of Minnesota, where I was part of two National Championship teams.

Throughout my sports career, I saw every side of the bench. I’ve been on undefeated teams, and teams struggling to find a single win; I’ve been a top player on the ice and the player fighting for a spot on the depth chart. These experiences, combined with my clinical training, allow me to meet you exactly where you are, regardless of your current stats or standings.

Why I Do This

There is no greater joy for me than watching someone discover a reservoir of strength they didn’t know they had. Whether you are hitting a career milestone or navigating an unexpected "road bump" like a season-ending injury, I am honored to be a small part of your journey as you find meaning and happiness in sport and in life.

Beyond the Office

When I’m not in the office, I’m likely outside spending time with my time with my husband, our kids, and our Newfoundland-Poodle mix, Luna. You’ll usually find us hiking, exploring local parks, or heading to the family cabin. On a perfect summer day, I’m at the lake with family and fitting in a few water ski runs before the sun goes down.
